KP for VP????

Over the weekend Katy Perry performed for Hillary Clinton at her Iowa campaign in Des Moines. Perry started Saturday morning by taking over Clinton's instagram, posting some funny photos. One of the posts showcased her nails for the event:

Very supportive if you ask me! She captioned the picture: "Katy Perry here, taking over Hills' IG today for the rally in Iowa. The stage is set, and the nails are pressed. T-Minus 1.5 hours before we Roar together. #ImWithHer - Katy"

In 2012, Perry also teamed up with Barack Obama in order to rally for some votes. So, I guess you could say that she is a very committed Democrat!

Here's a clip of the performance:

Bill Clinton also appeared on stage and commented that, "he has never opened up for Katy Perry before!" As excited as he was for Perry to hit the stage, the supporters and fans felt the same.

I would say this was a very special birthday weekend for not only Ms. Perry, but also for Hillary Clinton considering her birthday is only one days after Perry's on October 26.

After the performance Katy Perry presented her birthday gift to Clinton over Instagram:

Yes, it's true the singer did get Mrs. Clinton a necklace labeled, "POTUS", which stands for "President of the United States". Perry is very confident with the fact that Hillary Clinton will win this election and be the 44th president of the United States.

How can you not feel the urge to vote for Clinton after this Iowa campaign?!

Perry adds, "You have so much power and this is one of the most important elections in over a decade. So much change can happen. I stand and I march with Hillary. I believe in her future, her vision. I believe in her policies. I believe in equal rights for men, women, pay... Thank you for having me, she's my firework."

For the very first #WellnessWednesday we will be discussing Demi Lovato and her #NoMakeupMonday trend. If you are a fellow instagram lover like myself, you would most likely know about Demi Lovato setting a new standard for girls and women. So, this is how it works, every Monday she posts a photo of herself "fresh-faced", she wants all her followers to do the same.
 Demi's #NoMakeupMonday Instagram

In starting this trend, she is setting a new trend for girls: you do not have to wear makeup to be considered "pretty" or "beautiful". Demi Lovato is setting such a positive image for girls in todays society. So many girls look up to celebrities and think, "Oh, I'll never be as pretty as her." or "Why can't I look like that?" Demi is reassuring those girls that wearing makeup in fact does not define beauty. She's arguing the fact that beauty is natural, and that you should feel amazing just being you. We don't have to pretend to be someone or something that we're not. Although this may not help all girls, it is definitely a step in the right direction for revising the morals and standards for beauty among everyone. So bravo to Demi Lovato, keep up the positivity in todays pop world!

Quote of the day: "No matter what you're going through, there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it may seem hard to get to it but you can do it and just keep working towards it and you'll find the positive side of things." - Demi Lovato

Media Monday

Social media is quickly becoming our main source of not only pop news, but regular news as well. The vast accomodities that accompany the tire-less world of social media make it very hard for us not to get our news from it. What would our pop world be like if social media did not exist? I mean, Facebook was not always at the tip of our fingers (literally)! Without social media we are not able to get to know the artists that we love today. With the access of social media we are able to get to know the artists for who they truly are. There is almsost a sense of connection between yourself and the artists. How else would you be able to see what Beyoncé's favorite song of the week is if you didn't follow her on Twitter?! On social media celebs are able to communicate and reach out to their fans. They can see what people are saying about their latest red carpet look, or even how people are enjoying the music they put out. Now, not all pop stars are on social media, and not all of them interact with their fans. In fact, sometimes they're not even the ones tweeting from "their" account. It all depends on the artist and what they are comfortable and not comfortable with. Media and the press also plays a huge role on today's pop world. Without them our love for pop culture would boot be as high as it is today. As humans, we love the controversy that the media sparks. It gives us what feels like a step into the lives of our favorites. And some of us may hate to admit it but we are obsessed with what the media is trying to sell to us, whether it is true or false. This is why social media can be a wonderful asset to the pop world, it allows the artist to tell their own story instead of having their story be told for them.

A Day in the Life of a Publicist

Have you ever wanted to get out of your tiny, dark, and boring cubicle or out of your grey and uncomfortable desk and into the exciting, keep-you-on-your-toes kind of world like music? If you answered yes to that question, continue reading.
Now if you know anything about the music world, you would know that Warner Bros. Records is one of the largest radio corporations in the U.S. today. They have signed huge artists such as, Prince, Stevie Nicks, Cher, and Jason Derulo. Did I mention some recent up-and-comers like Bebe Rexha,  Echosmith, Jake Miller, also Tegan and Sara? Warner Bros. Records falls anything less than short.

With a roster that is very strong and versatile, Warner Bros. needs a staff that also incorporates those characteristics. I had the opportunity to interview Jill Augusto, the Senior Manager of Publicity and Events at Warner Bros. Records.
Although, her job may be fun and exciting at times she says on a scale of 1-10 on intensity she would give it an 8-10, “you need to have a thick skin, be able to adjust quickly to different situations and have an ability to read a room and react quickly.” Being a manager of publicity and events at a major record label sounds anything less than easy.
Now you are probably thinking how does one become a senior manager of publicity and events at such a prestigious record label? Well, it takes a lot of hard work and time. Jill Augusto’s mother suggested that she go to college and major in physical therapy turns out that she was not able to get into that program. She found her interest for radio/music while co-owning a small radio station with a friend at Newbury College.
“I ended up at Newbury College in Brookline for the first 2 years and received my Associates in Mass Communication, and then transferred to Emerson College and received my Bachelors in Audio Radio/Music as a Business and a Minor in Photography.” What a change in choice of majors! She also got her start by interning for WAAF in the productions department, during the day around her classes and also at night. She was able to learn about a particular subject that she was interested in during the day and then put that knowledge to use at night.

Not only was the decision in majors a drastic change, but also the move from Massachusetts to California. When asked how she handled the move she responded, “I took a chance and went to LA...Was offered a job from my old boss after graduation and never looked back. I miss my family for sure - always thought I would have done the NYC move before LA...but I guess that wasn't in my cards.” California is a hub of all things celebrities and their world, it is a perfect place to pursue a career in the radio/music business (much better than Massachusetts for that matter).
First starting at Maverick Records in 2001 in the Marketing Department, the label was owned by Warner Bros. at the time and was later folded in 2006 so Jill Augusto moved labels.
These days her job consists of decorating WB for the holidays, “- that is the fun part of my job! We have a few listening sessions coming up so it needs to look festive. Every day is different - I am in the middle of setting up a Deftones record for a spring release and The Grammy Nominations are next week so there is a lot to do for that as well.” The Grammy nominations? Only the biggest award show celebrating music artists in the world.
Have you ever struggled during your journey? She responded, “All the time - I still do! Depends on the day and the fire I am putting out!” Even senior managers have stressful filled days too, not only us young ones still in high school! Because she rated her job so high on the“toughness” scale, I also was curious as to what drove her to do what she does,“The bands, the music and the people I work with that I call some of the best friends I have ever made.” Taking this wild chance, led Jill Augusto to obtaining a job that she enjoys, being surrounded by some awesome friends (also some celebrities), and staying warm in sunny California!
To end the interview I asked if this job was her dream job or if she saw herself somewhere else in the future. She replied, “One never knows where the path will lead us. I am sure this will not be my last job in the industry - or maybe it will! You have to be able to take it day by day and it changes so fast!”
Just because the music industry is always-changing, Jill Augusto still has the same fondness for the job she first took interest in while in college.
